Picture Maker: The Work of Virginia Twinam Smith
Woodlands Garden presents this retrospective showcase on the inspiring work of Virginia Twinam Smith. The self-proclaimed ‘picture maker’ or ‘story teller’ began her career at the age of sixty. Regionally and nationally published, she gained early recognition for her documentary projects like the Little 5 Points series and later in her eighties for her award-winning digital botanical composites. Virginia was an active member of the Atlanta community, long-time arts and gardening volunteer, and exhibiting member with the Atlanta Photography Group and Women in Focus.
Fostering a lifetime love of the natural world, particularly plant life and gardening, Virginia began visiting Woodlands Garden while living in a nursing facility in Decatur. The artist chose to gift her work to this community greenspace in hopes to give back to the natural beauty and landscape that brought her such joy. Come see these dynamic works alongside countless never before seen images. Explore Virginia’s development of craft and adaption of process throughout her career as we honor an extraordinary spirit, a zest for life and a commitment to her community. Sales of Virginia’s timeless original works support the ever-growing Woodlands Garden. Parking offsite encouraged.
